First and foremost, the boundary that prevents serious problems: this text is about YOUR conversations. Recovering a deleted message in a chat you're participating in is legitimate — it arrived on your device. However, installing a program on someone else's phone to read their conversations is device intrusion, a crime under Article 154-A of the Penal Code, punishable by 1 to 4 years in prison. There is no application that can read someone else's WhatsApp remotely: the messages are end-to-end encrypted.

That said, the question that brings most people here has a practical answer. When someone deletes a message you've already received, the text has passed through your phone's notifications—and that's where honest apps in this category get the information they show.

It comes from the notification, not the conversation.

Android records the notification text as soon as it arrives. If the message is deleted later, it disappears from the chat, but the record already exists. That's what the app reads.

 Only after installation

Messages deleted before the app existed on your phone cannot be recovered. There is no previous history to retrieve them from.

 Only what generated notification.

If you had the conversation open, or if you muted that contact, there was no notification—and therefore no record.

 Long texts may be truncated.

The notification displays only a portion of the message. A longer message often appears incomplete.

 Media relies on automatic download.

Photos and audio can only be recovered if they had already been downloaded before the sender deleted them.

Step 1: Before installing anything, enable the native feature: Settings > Notifications > Notification history. It saves the last 24 hours and doesn't require any app.

Step 2: If you want a longer history, look for a notification history app on the Play Store, such as WAMR. Only use the official store—no APKs.

Step 3: Grant only read notification permission. If the app asks for accessibility, device administrator, or contacts permission, be suspicious.

Step 4: Choose which apps you want to save the history of. your conversations.

Step 5: From then on, anything that reaches your phone is recorded. None of that information reaches another person's device.

Avoid any app that promises to read someone else's phone number, that speaks in invisible mode, or that needs to be installed via APK. These programs are not available in app stores because they violate their rules; they require disabling Android protections; they send what they capture to an unknown server; and they expose the installer to Article 154-A.

Também é bom desconfiar de site que pede seu número para “espelhar” o WhatsApp. É o golpe do código de verificação: você entrega o código de seis dígitos, perde a conta e seus contatos passam a receber pedido de dinheiro em seu nome.

Take this opportunity to protect your own account: enable two-step verification in Settings > Account, review connected devices, and end sessions you don't recognize. It's also worth checking in Settings > Accessibility to see if there are any active services you didn't install—that's how surveillance on your device is discovered.

A reference regarding the legal limits of this type of program: Spy apps may be illegal..

Only those that arrived on your device while the history was active and that generated a notification. Before that, or with the contact muted, there is no record.

No. End-to-end encryption prevents this, and installing software on another adult's device is a crime under article 154-A, punishable by 1 to 4 years in prison.

There is no notification, because the retrieval happens on your own phone — you are simply reading what had already been sent to you.

Practically not. iOS doesn't release notification history to third-party apps. On the iPhone, the only option left is the iCloud backup.

The WhatsApp backup on Google Drive is restored upon reinstalling the app. It replaces the current history and only recovers data up to the date of the last backup.

What's truly available is modest and reliable: the Android notification history itself, an official app store that does the same for longer, WhatsApp backups, and the habit of exporting important conversations. All on your device, without depending on anyone else.

If the search began due to distrust in a relationship, let's be frank: no app can restore trust. If the conversation stalled, couples therapy is more effective; if there's fear, the 180 helpline is available 24 hours a day, free of charge and confidentially.

How to Use the Apps
